SarcopeniaOnLine: The Italian portal of Sarcopenia & Nutrition
The intent of SarcopeniaOnLine is to promote knowledge of these issues, with particular attention to diagnosis and treatment.
Within the portal will be proposed the brief reports on sarcopenia, how to diagnose and possible therapeutic interventions, but also updates on the latest publications related to sarcopenia and nutrition.
From SarcopeniaOnLine it will be possible to access useful tools for the assessment of nutritional status and muscle strength and to be always updated on all the events dedicated to this topic.
SarcopeniaOnLine is managed by the Italian Working Group on Sarcopenia - Treatment and Nutrition (GLISTEN Group), which works as a study group in the research and teaching activities of the Italian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.
It is a group of experts in the field of nutrition and sarcopenia. GLISTEN born with the aim of promoting the creation of a network for scientific research, education and training both on the evaluation of sarcopenia and on possible interventions, with particular reference to physical exercise and nutritional approach.
GLISTEN developed the first Italian multi-center epidemiological study on sarcopenia. The "epidemiological study of the prevalence of sarcopenia in the older hospitalized population", has as primary objectives the determination of the prevalence of sarcopenia (using the criteria of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People) and the incidence of sarcopenia in older hospitalized subjects.
In the near future GLISTEN aims to promote new research protocols on possible therapeutic interventions (in particular on nutritional support / oral nutritional supplement), on the validation of new instruments for the assessment of muscle mass (use of anthropometric values in clinical practice, use of Bio-impedance analysis for the quantification of appendicular muscle mass) and the prevalence / incidence of sarcopenia in different care settings (nursing homes, home care, palliative care).
